About the venue
Small City Theatre "Zad Kanala" (Behind the Canal) is an independent municipal theatre in Sofia, founded in 1990 during the country's transition to democracy. It sits at 1 Madrid Blvd., near Zaimov Park, in an intimate hall seating roughly 200. Its repertoire spans classic and contemporary drama — from Chekhov and Shakespeare to Pinter and Ionesco — alongside premieres by Bulgarian playwrights. The theatre has won national awards and performed at major international festivals in Paris, Vienna and Berlin.
How to get there
The theatre is located at 1 Madrid Blvd., next to Zaimov Park. The nearest metro station is "Teatralna" (line M3, operating since August 2020), with exits onto Madrid Blvd. and Evlogi i Hristo Georgievi Blvd. Bus lines 11, 75, 213, 214 and 404, and tram lines 20, 22 and 23 also serve the area.
