Orpheus

"Orpheus" is a contemporary retelling of the ancient myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, directed by Slovenian director Jernej Lorenci (winner of the 2017 European "Premio" award), with dramaturgy by Matic Starina. Performed by a cast of 16 on the Main Stage, with Deyan Donkov as Orpheus, the production explores war's impact on artistic creation, self-deception and forgetting, artistic isolation, and the metaphysical dimensions of love — asking why Orpheus descends into the underworld and why he breaks the prophecy's command not to look back at Eurydice. It won the 2023 IKAR awards for Best Direction, Best Production, and the Audience Award.
