The Writers' Café

“The Writers' Café”, staged by the Drama Theatre “Boris Lukhanov” – Lovech, brings back the atmosphere of Sofia's emblematic “Tsar Osvoboditel” confectionery from the years between the two world wars. On stage come alive creators such as Ivan Milev, Hristo Yasenov, Geo Milev, Elisaveta Bagryana, Dora Gabe, Adriana Budevska, Krastyo Sarafov, Yordan Yovkov and Nikola Vaptsarov. Its central theme is the mission of the artist and the role of art in a time of social, political, economic and personal crisis: how do we preserve a personal creative voice amid censorship, hardship and erased memory? The text includes quotes and poems by emblematic Bulgarian writers and poets, as well as the actors' own texts.
