The Double Bass

Valentin Ganev's one-man show after Patrick Süskind tells of a musician in love with a young opera diva. His problem is that although he loves his double bass, he is in despair at his own anonymity in the orchestra. Locked alone in the claustrophobic space of his music room, he there identifies with his instrument and there sets himself apart, seeking and finding himself somewhere in the movement between the two poles — in a paradoxical and comic way. The play is a rich and varied score for soloist and double bass, for man and instrument, for actor and object. Premiere: 10 January 2001. Not recommended for persons under 14.
