King Lear, a Tale of Lost Eyes

King Lear, a Tale of Lost Eyes is a contemporary cabaret-style physical theatre production by Theatre-Laboratory "Alma Alter," based on Shakespeare's tragedy. It is directed by Valeria Dimitrova, choreographed by Erol Alexander, with music by Ignacio Carbajal, Konstantin Kuchev, Julien Zhelyazkov and Mariela Dimitrova. Through music, movement, repetition and grotesque transformation, Shakespeare's drama becomes a dark farce in which cruelty and humor, laughter and despair coexist — the question being what remains once reason disappears. The performance is in English and is part of the international programme "Shakespeare Among the Young," Alter Ego 2026, supported by the Ministry of Culture.
