A one-woman show by Biljana Petrinska, based on Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt's novel 'The Rival', directed by Stoyan Radev at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. 'Good singing, good life, good death' is the motto opera prima Carlotta Berlumi follows in life and career: blessed with a naturally beautiful voice, she wins a competition at 17 and by 20 sings Aida at La Scala. Life is generous to her — talent, devoted admirers, many lovers. But the rise of another opera star casts a shadow over her triumphal march: Maria Callas. Her rival is her complete opposite — a voice like a 'fire brigade siren', revolutionary stage presence, the look of a fashion model. Audiences admire Carlotta, yet some prefer to watch Callas being booed rather than hear Berlumi. What is the key to the mystery of Callas's magic over the crowds? Carlotta Berlumi tries to find the answer in the twilight of her days, when only the last part of her motto remains to be fulfilled — 'a good death'. Duration 1 h 10 min, English subtitles. Not recommended for persons under 12.
