The Glembays

The Glembays by Miroslav Krleža on the Main Stage of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, directed by one of Croatia's most renowned contemporary directors, Ivica Buljan. In the home of banker Ignjat Glembay, between one and five in the morning, the family gathers to celebrate the anniversary of the Glembay joint-stock company — and beneath the glossy facade embezzlement, fraud and hidden crimes come to light. The 1929 play, in the tradition of Ibsen, Strindberg and Chekhov, is an allegory of European bourgeois decadence and still sounds strikingly relevant today. Cast: Dejan Donkov, Teodora Duhovnikova, Ana Papadopulu, Plamen Dimov (IKAR 2026 award for leading male role), Darin Angelov, Veselin Mezekliev and others. Running time 3 h. (with intermission).
