Three women live through the 2002 terrorist attack at the Dubrovka theatre in Moscow, told in the first person. Olga, Tamara and Zura tell their stories from before and during the attack: Olga had long been saving money to buy tickets for the musical and take her family; Tamara, an emergency doctor, is among the ambulances outside the theatre and later learns her mother and daughter are inside; Zura is one of the Chechen hostage-takers. The fates of the three women intertwine in a moment of trial, brought together by chance.
