The Different One

"The Different One" by Aleksei Slapovski is a tragicomedy directed by Stefan Spasov on the stage of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre. A confirmed bachelor browses marriage ads, having promised his mother twelve years ago that he would marry, and comes across an intriguing one: "A young, beautiful, wealthy woman seeks an ugly and poor man to make him happy." The beauty loves a monster — but instead of turning into a prince, he becomes a real monster, because happiness is a great trial for a weak man, as the hero (and the audience) comes to realise. The author calls the play a "comitragedy". Cast: Lyubomir Neykov, Vyara Tabakova, Gergana Zmiicharova/Iliana Kodzhabasheva, Antoniya Kundakova. Running time 1 h 30 min; not recommended for persons under 14.
