The Poet's Spirit

"The Poet's Spirit" is a dramatic historical mystification based on a text by Stefan Tsanev, directed by Margarita Mladenova at the National Theatre's Chamber Stage. Set in Sofia in 1892, it shows how former freedom fighters turn into dictators — not through coups, but through outwardly democratic means. In a dream, Stefan Stambolov and Zachary Stoyanov are confronted by the unexpected appearance of a poet, posing a moral dilemma tied to Hristo Botev. The cast includes Valentin Tanev, Pavlin Petrunov and Hristo Mutafchiev.
